Youth Rx Awareness Initiative

The Project Aware Youth Rx Abuse Awareness Initiative aims to address youth prescription drug abuse in an effective and empowering way. This project raises awareness amongst¬†youth utilizing presentations, workshops, school based health classes and the video “Falling” created by the Project AWARE Players.

Presentations by youth for adults are also emphasized. Many parents and adults are simply not aware that young people are abusing these powerful and dangerous drugs. When young people dramatize the issue in live skits for audiences in schools or communities there is typically an immediate response, and often a call to action.

Project AWARE is in a unique position to address this serious issue. The organization, in its first 3 years, toured the state providing workshops and presentations aimed solely at raising awareness about the dangers and prevalence of youth prescription drug abuse. In addition, it developed handouts, supported other organizations and schools, and finally created the movie “Falling”.

Currently Project AWARE is seeking to partner with community members and organizations to maintain the focus on this important topic. Please contact the Coordinator.
